From facts and figures to spotlights on collaborators, the 2023 Impact Report provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the important work being done at LAS.

The Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS) at North Carolina State University released its 2023 Impact Report highlighting the organization’s recent progress in its efforts to revolutionize the field of intelligence analysis. The report reflects on noteworthy projects and research accomplishments made by students, faculty, industry, and government collaborators during 2023.

“We work with a broad group of experts who strive to provide real solutions for real problems, so we’re pleased to share these engaging stories about the impact of our research on national security,” says Alyson Wilson, principal investigator for LAS.

In 2023, LAS funded year-long research projects with 20 faculty members from 12 universities, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, NC State, and Fayetteville State University. In addition, it collaborated with eight industry partners, including SAS Institute and Amazon Web Services. These partnerships led to the development of dozens of research projects and prototypes, which aimed to aid intelligence analysts in their workflows of analyzing large volumes of data.

The lab also hosted 50 participants for its 2023 Summer Conference on Applied Data Science (SCADS), which yielded additional projects, prototypes and datasets. These results provide a strong foundation for next year’s SCADS researchers to continue developing a tailored daily report for intelligence workers.
