Bio

John Slankas is a senior research scholar at the Laboratory for Analytic Sciences at NC State University. He works with multiple academics, government analysts, and industry partners to develop novel and unique solutions for the intelligence community that lay at the intersection of tradecraft and technology. He occasionally teaches software security classes for the department of computer science at NC State University. John also teaches classes for the master of financial technology program at Duke University. Previously, John completed his Ph.D. in computer science from NC State University in 2015. Through his dissertation, Implementing Database Access Control Policy from Unconstrained Natural Language Text, John examined identifying access control rules in text documents through a variety of machine learning techniques. He also earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Arizona in 1993. Prior to his return to graduate studies, John worked at Wachovia Corporation for ten years leading teams in developing intranet-based solutions for the human resources and information security groups.
