First Day of Summer Conference on Applied Science (SCADS)
Jun 2, 2025
The Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS) at North Carolina State University hosts its annual Summer Conference on Applied Data Science (SCADS), which takes place for eight weeks in Raleigh, NC. This event brings together expertise from academia, industry, and government to collaboratively address a data science challenge problem.
The overarching, multi-year challenge of SCADS is to generate tailored daily reports for knowledge workers that capture information relevant to their individual objectives and interests. These tailored daily reports, or “TLDRs,” aim to proactively provide individuals with information relevant to their needs, objectives, and interests.
Researchers whose research interests intersect with problems posed by such challenges are encouraged to apply. Attendees will be provided with preparatory materials before the event to learn about the problem domain and datasets. Attendees work in teams on the problems most interesting to them. Informal sessions or lectures will be used to present partial results or ideas. SCADS attendees receive a stipend and may be eligible for support for travel and lodging.
