Confronting My Own Thoughts: How to Handle the Stereotypes in My Mind

May 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

While it may be impossible for us to deny the thoughts we have, it is not impossible to ensure that our actions reinforce our best values (honor, respectfulness, collegiality and inclusion) and not ones that stem from prejudice or ignorance. This energetic and interactive session provides an opportunity to explore reactions to various differences. Use of small group discussions will expose the impact that labels put forth.

Attendees will:

  • Confront stereotyping and discuss methodologies to ensure potential prejudices/predeterminations do not negatively affect interactions with colleagues
  • Engage in a “higher risk'” activity to cultivate thought processes and then discuss focusing on “emotional ” and “intellectual ” dimensions by discussing “culture”.. in that context; and,
  • Discuss tangible ways to challenge and abate the negative impacts stereotypes can have with regard to mission
